UniMAC’s IFT Lecturer, Magdalena Eyram Kwashie, Wins Best Actress Award

Ms. Magdalena Eyram Kwashie, a Lecturer of documentary at the Institute of Film and Television, University of Media Arts and Communication (UNIMAC), has been awarded the prestigious “Best Actress Award” at the maiden Renaissance Film Festival in Accra, Ghana.

The award ceremony, organized by the YMCA Ghana, celebrated outstanding contributions of persons to cinema; attracting over one hundred (100) entries from young filmmakers. Ms. Kwashie's compelling performance in the film "EBU," directed by Thompson Lordson, earned her the top honour.

The "EBU" film tells the story of a young girl who struggles to adapt to village life due to her inability to communicate in her native dialect. Ms. Kwashie's emotionally charged portrayal of a supporting character in the film impressed the judges, solidifying her position as one of Ghana's talented actresses.

As a documentary film, the Director, Lecturer and Actress - Ms. Kwashie has dedicated herself to nurturing young talents by featuring in numerous student productions as a way of guiding excellent productions. Her win at the Renaissance Film Festival is a testament to her hard work, passion, and commitment to the craft.

Upon receiving the award, Ms. Kwashie expressed her gratitude, stating, "this award represents the tireless efforts of students and young filmmakers who pour their hearts into storytelling. As an actress and lecturer, I'm humbled to support and inspire the next generation of filmmakers."
